ECCP at Work
Last 20 February, the ECCP, together with the members of the Joint Foreign Chambers of the Philippines and other industry associations, met with the legislative staff of Senator Joel Villanueva to discuss Senate Bill 1357 or the Comprehensive Income Tax and Incentives Rationalization Act (CITIRA). CITIRA seeks to lower the tax companies pay from the current rate of 30% to 20% while streamlining incentives currently availed by various private enterprises. As Senator Villanueva currently chairs the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development, the group was able to exchange insights on the adverse effects of CITIRA to domestic employment. The meeting forms part of the ECCP's advocacy work in reaching out to policymakers and helping them craft well-informed policies.
