The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) extends its congratulations to the government, and specifically the Bureau of Customs, for its achievement in the 2025 United Nations Global Survey on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation. The Philippines has successfully maintained its position as the second-highest ranked nation in Southeast Asia, with its overall trade facilitation score rising to 91.4% from 86% in the previous year.

This achievement reflects the government’s dedication to streamlining trade processes through implementing key legislation and initiatives. We commend efforts in advancing paperless trade and digitalizing customs procedures, notably through the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act of 2016, the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, the continued development of the Philippine National Single Window and TradeNet, and the ongoing modernization efforts of the Bureau of Customs, including its Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Program. The ECCP is committed to support the government in fully operationalizing and implementing these measures to both increase transparency and reduce overall trade costs.

The ongoing reforms and initiatives in digital and sustainable trade facilitation will no doubt further strengthen the country’s position in the ongoing EU-Philippines Free Trade Agreement negotiations, with the 3rd round scheduled for October in the Philippines. The EU-Philippines FTA will not only reflect the country’s robust trade framework, but lead to increased opportunities, economic growth, and stronger bilateral ties.
