In February 2013, Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho L. Petilla announced that renewable energy projects that start operating first will be granted the Feed-In-Tariffs (FIT) allowance to remove any chance of speculation in the awarding process. However, in the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, the FIT was designed to spur development of renewable power sources by guaranteeing developers\\\' electricity rates, the cost of which will be passed on to consumers.
This new policy raises concerns among the renewable energy business community; some of the questions asked are:
We will have a panel of speakers during this forum to exchange constructive views on this new policy, see fair and speedy implementation and to engage government and the private sector in the discussion. From government we have invited DOE Secretary Jericho Petilla, DOE Director Mario Marasigan and the ERC Executive Director Saturnino Juan. The private sector will be represented by Pete Maniego, President of the NREB.
