Renewable Energy: First Come First Served Policy

09May
Quezon Ballroom B, Shangri-la Hotel, Makati City, Philippines
Membership Meeting

In February 2013, Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho L. Petilla announced that renewable energy projects that start operating first will be granted the Feed-In-Tariffs (FIT) allowance to remove any chance of speculation in the awarding process. However, in the Renewable Energy Act of 2008, the FIT was designed to spur development of renewable power sources by guaranteeing developers\\\' electricity rates, the cost of which will be passed on to consumers.

This new policy raises concerns among the renewable energy business community; some of the questions asked are:

  • What are the reasons for this change?
  • Is it fair to genuine investors – large, medium and small? Is it anti- SME?
  • Will it really eliminate the speculators?
  • Are all the other legal and bureaucratic rules in place to get RE investments finally going?

We will have a panel of speakers during this forum to exchange constructive views on this new policy, see fair and speedy implementation and to engage government and the private sector in the discussion. From government we have invited DOE Secretary Jericho Petilla, DOE Director Mario Marasigan and the ERC Executive Director Saturnino Juan. The private sector will be represented by Pete Maniego, President of the NREB.

As this will be an interesting and hopefully constructive forum, leading to solutions acceptable to all stakeholders, and as we will have limited seats only, we request you to register early so we can reserve a seat for you. Email Suzette Gamido - suzette.gamido@eccp.com.
