In 2014, agriculture accounted for 11.3% of GDP in the Philippines. Apart from being a significant economic driver, agriculture also remains integral to achieving inclusive economic growth in the country. However, while there are a multitude of private sector and government initiatives which aim to support agricultural development and competitiveness there are still gaps which need to be addressed. These will allow agriculture in the Philippines to reach its full potential, be that in terms of international competitiveness, agricultural productivity or its effectiveness as a tool of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

It is with this in mind that EPBN is organizing the Agriculture Advocacy Forum on January 19th, 8.00AM - 11.00AM at Makati Shangri La, Makati A Function Room.

The Advocacy Forum aims to facilitate a discussion between the legislative and executive branches of government, the EU Delegation, the private sector and other stakeholders. The objective is to identify common goals and initiatives to address current bottlenecks and make Philippine agriculture competitive, productive and inclusive.

The forum will focus on two main themes. First, trading and investing in agriculture, including strengthening supply chains, the role of EU GSP+ and GIs, accreditation of European products, the role of cooperatives, farm mechanization and access to finance. Second, improving farm productivity through skills development, including agri-preneurship and agri-business, inter-cropping, extension programs and how best to utilize scholarship funding.
